It is the mission of the Western Carteret Fire and EMS Department to protect the citizen’s and visitor’s lives and property of the Western Carteret County communities of Bogue, Cape Carteret, Cedar Point, Peletier, unincorporated Stella and other unincorporated areas that surround these communities from the effects of fire and other emergencies or disasters, and to provide the best professional fire, rescue service, and emergency medical care possible.

About our Department
The Western Carteret Interlocal Cooperation Agency is a unit of local government similar to a municipality in that it is made of units of local government and municipalities. The Towns of Bogue, Cape Carteret, Cedar Point, Peletier, and the County of Carteret joined together to undertake a function of government; Fire and Emergency Medical Services, for the protection and common good and safety of the citizens of the combined local governments in western Carteret County and the visitors to our area.
The Western Carteret Interlocal Cooperation Agency DBA Western Carteret Fire & EMS is a full service fire department providing Fire & Life Safety, Fire Suppression, Advanced Life Support (ALS), Basic Life Support (BLS), Hazardous Material (Operational Level), and Technical Rescue (Vehicle and Machinery, Wilderness, Watercraft, Surface Water, and Floodwater).
The department serves a total geographic area of approximately 40 square miles, spanning into both Jones and Onslow Counties. We serve an estimated full-time population of over 9,000 residents, with a seasonal increase to over 14,000 residents, business customers, and visitors. Our adjoining neighbors include Maysville Fire & EMS (North), The Town of Emerald Isle Fire Department (South), Town of Emerald Isle EMS (South), Broad & Gales Creek Fire Department (East), Broad & Gales Creek EMS (East), Town of Swansboro Fire Department (West), and Onslow County Emergency Medical Services (West).
We are proud to be the largest fire department in western Carteret County. Our department is lead by a full-time Chief of Department, a part-time Deputy Chief/Paramedic who manages the EMS Operations, and a full-time Assistant Chief of Operations and Training who supervises Station 2. In addition to management, our roster is made up of 0ver 50 firefighters, paramedics, and emergency medical technicians. There are 15 full-time employees assigned to one of three shifts. Each shift is comprised of a Captain, Lieutenant, two Firefighter/Paramedics, and one Firefighter/EMT. Part-time Firefighter/EMTs are scheduled daily to supplement staffing levels for each shift.
The Department provides 24-hour emergency service to our residents, businesses, and visitors from two fire stations located in the Town of Cedar Point, NC and Stella, NC.

The Western Carteret Interlocal Cooperation Agency, doing business as the Western Carteret Fire & EMS Department, will be accepting applications from professional, qualified/certified persons to create an eligibility pool/list of applicants for possible forthcoming part-time or full-time openings; immediate or within a two-year period from August 1, 2020 through July 31, 2022.
